My Life is a free interactive resource from The Children's Society, developed in partnership
with our national Good Childhood® Inquiry. All the materials on the site aim to help
children develop the skills they need for a happy, healthy childhood.
Your child's school may use the materials available on My Life as part of curriculum
work in PSHE and Citizenship, and your child may well bring home some activities
to share with you as part of their study.
There are six units on the site:
- My friends
- My family
- How I learn
- What I like doing
- Keeping healthy
- What I believe in
Types of activities
All the material is presented in a lively, child-friendly style and will encourage
the children to develop their understanding of themselves and others. This includes
strategies for dealing with peer pressure, problem solving and becoming better communicators. Online interactive exercises are backed up with discussion ideas and worksheets for different ability levels.
Issues raised in this resource
My Life deals with issues which you may consider sensitive. It does not cover issues such as self-harm, sexual abuse or substance misuse. However, it does deal with topics such as young carers, disability and cultural differences. These themes will be instantly recognisable to children as issues that have a direct impact on their daily lives.
We have provided teachers with support and guidance on how to approach the material on the site and you can read more on the Dealing with sensitive issues page. This page includes contact details for organisations that can offer you further support should you need help with any of the issues raised.
By tackling these issues, My Life offers support and resources to help children enjoy a better childhood. My Life forms part of The Children's Society's mission to work with children to imagine, explore and identify the most effective ways to meet their needs.
